Three-stage Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
The three-stage ESP system is being introduced for the first time with the market launch of the C 63 AMG.
This system can be individually adjusted to the requirements of driver.
(ESP ON) mode
(ESP ON) mode is always activated when the ignition is switched on. In this state, the ESP system behaves in the same way as on the production version of the C-Class.
It prevents breakaway when the vehicle oversteers or understeers and ensures that the vehicle does not deviate from the course specified by the driver in all situations (within physical limits).
Brake forces are applied selectively at the individual wheels to correct the course of the vehicle.
The system prevents the drive wheels from spinning and the Pre-Safe system is active.
The Electronic Stability Program warning lamp in the instrument cluster flashes during ESP control interventions
(ESP Sport) mode
(ESP Sport) mode is activated by briefly pressing the ESP button in the instrument panel switch group. This changes the following settings:
• ABS remains available
• The engine torque control functions of the ASR and ESP systems are active but with significantly reduced intervention strength and adjusted intervention thresholds
• Interventions by the Pre-Safe system are adjusted to the modified applications
• When the brake pedal is depressed forcefully, the vehicle is braked with ESP support (when the brake application is finished, the system automatically reverts to (ESP Sport) mode)
• The Electronic Stability Program warning lamp in the instrument cluster is permanently on and flashes during ESP control interventions.
When (ESP Sport) mode is active, the system only stabilizes the vehicle to a limited extent when the wheels spin.
(ESP OFF) mode
(ESP OFF) mode is activated by pressing the ESP button in the instrument panel switch group for a longer period of time. This changes the following settings:
• ABS remains available
• No engine torque control or brake system interventions by the ASR system. Only single-sided brake system intervention is active for traction support.
• No engine torque control or brake system interventions by ESP system
• No interventions by Pre-Safe system
• When the brake pedal is depressed forcefully, the vehicle is braked with ESP support (when the brake application is finished, the system automatically reverts to (ESP OFF) mode)
• The Electronic Stability Program warning lamp and ESP OFF indicator lamp in the instrument cluster are permanently on.
When (ESP OFF) mode is active, the system does not stabilize the vehicle when the wheels spin.
